Inspirational Designers #2: Philippe Starck

Today, it is time for the 2nd monthly post about an inspirational Interior Designer. I will show you some work of Philippe Starck.

Philippe Starck is such a big name in the “business” that probably all of my readers have heard of him and will know some of his work. I think he really can’t be missed in this series. He has been around for years and left his signature in many hotels, restaurants, shops, public places around the world.

He is an icon and I may not like all of his work, there is really something to it. I don’t like to blow it up but when you step into a Starck designed building there happends something kind of magic. He made it different, got it right and did most of the times weird, interesting things to it. I think it says enough that I remember every single designed hotel or restaurant which was designed by him really well and there are always strange features around, that I think later: how did that actually work?

The first place I every visited (partly) designed by him was probably the Groninger Museum (but then I didn’t know he worked on that…) Since I moved to London in 2001 I spent many evenings in the bars and restaurants of the Sanderson and st Martins Lane hotels, had dinner at Theatriz in Madrid, my marriage proposal took place in restaurant Bon in Paris and absolutely love one of his latest projects: Mama Shelter in Paris and Marseille.
